Police Department Technology
Technological Upgrades
The Ballwin Police Department utilizes current technology to enhance it's operations. This technology includes a Computerized Criminal Processing and Photo Imaging System, Mobil Data Terminals, and Automated External Defibrillation Systems.
The Ballwin Police Department prides itself on providing the citizenry the best and most efficient service possible. This can be greatly accomplished through the acquisition and implementation of the latest technologies available to law enforcement. It is the intention of the Department to continue to pursue these opportunities.
Communications
The Ballwin Police Department has its own Communications Unit which services the communities of Ballwin and Manchester. The Unit is a state of the art center which receives all 911 and non-emergency calls and dispatches calls for service to the officers on the street. The Communications upgrade included replacing the furniture, the camera monitoring system, radio console and the CAD (Computer Aided Dispatch) system. Tours can be given to groups Monday-Friday, call Officer Rob Rogers at 636-227-9636. |

Computerized Criminal Processing and Photo Imaging System
The Computerized Criminal Processing and Photo Imaging System allows officers to enter arrest information directly into the computer system without it having to be transposed. The system also gives the Police Department the ability to capture a digital photo image of the arrested person, which enhances the quality of the photo. The system gives the Department the ability to share the image and arrest information with a multitude of neighboring law enforcement agencies that are utilizing the same system.

Mobil Data Terminals are laptop computer systems that are currently installed in patrol vehicles. From these terminals, officers are able to review an individuals arrest history along with drivers license status and checking for active Warrants or Wants. In addition to obtaining this information, officers will have the ability to view a digital arrest photograph of a person if one has been entered into the system. The officers will be able to make these inquires on the scene, which will greatly reduce the amount of non-emergency radio traffic.

Time to defibrillation is the most important determinant of survival from cardiac arrest. The Automated External Defibrillators are sophisticated, computerized devices that are reliable and simple to operate, enabling officers to administer this life saving intervention immediately if paramedics have not yet arrived.

Non-Lethal TASER(R) Technology
A recent technological update to the Ballwin Police Department is the non-lethal Taser. Taser's are electro muscular disruption devices that allow officers to take resistant subjects into custody without injuring the suspect or the officer. The Taser is a handheld tool that delivers an electrical charge through two barbed probes that are discharged from the front of the device. The specially designed electrical charge causes involuntary contraction of the muscles by overriding the central nervous system. The electrical charges are delivered in five (5) second increments. The Taser’s internal computer stores time, date, duration, and temperature of when the device is discharged. The Taser causes no permanent injury to a subject who receives the electrical charge.
