Forestry

Urban Forestry Mission
The goal of the urban forestry program is to maintain, evaluate, protect, and expand the city’s urban landscape in the right–of–ways throughout Ballwin and to improve our environment, beauty of our city streets, and enhance the safety of our residents.

Street Trees
The Parks and Recreation Department is responsible for trimming the street trees located between the street and the sidewalk. Generally, where there is no sidewalk, trees in the right-of-way are not trimmed by the City. Trees are trimmed with a pole pruner from ground level according to the City’s ordinance for acceptable pedestrian and vehicular clearance. City ordinance requires branches to be a minimum of fourteen feet above the street and eight feet above the sidewalk. Street trees are not sprayed for insects or disease. Dead trees within the street and sidewalk will be removed by the City.
