Proposition U

On Tuesday, April 5, 2022, Ballwin voters will have the chance to vote on Proposition U. Proposition U asks the voters whether or not they wish to establish a local use tax in the City of Ballwin. A local use tax is applied to purchases made online, such as eBay and Amazon.

Local sales tax revenues from brick-and-mortar Ballwin businesses are declining due to a rise in e-commerce. The City of Ballwin relies heavily on revenues from local sales tax to fund basic services, such as street maintenance, police, recreation facilities and programs, parks, and building safety. The increase in online shopping is compromising this traditional funding source, forcing the City to modernize its revenue sources in order to provide the quality, essential services our residents expect.

The City encourages all residents to educate themselves on this important topic prior to election day. Please click the links below or with questions.
