4.18.18 City Hall Groundbreaking on Monday

On Monday, April 23 at 6:45 p.m., the City of Ballwin will host a ground- breaking ceremony on the site of the new city hall building in Vlasis Park. This ceremony will slightly delay the start of the board meeting that evening.

Ballwin Board of Aldermen and city officials will be in attendance, and the public is welcome to attend.

Approval for the project was officially granted at the last Ballwin Board of Aldermen meeting on Monday, April 9. At this meeting, City Administrator Eric Hanson gave a report on the results of the bid opening and mentioned the very favorable bidding climate helped the cost come in almost $400,000 under budget.

This means, the City will be able to pay cash for the entire project which has been set aside over the years for this very purpose. No financing will be required. As Mayor Tim Pogue stated at a previous board meeting, this really is thanks to the foresight of past officials who responsibly prepared the way for this project to unfold.

The City has hired K&S Associates, Inc. for the construction of the building and SCI Engineering, Inc. for construction material testing and special inspections. The City has also been working with Chiodini Architects and Navigate Building Solutions to develop building plans over the last year.

The construction site is located on the lower half of Vlasis Park, which will mean closing the lower parking lot to public use.  The lot will be closed beginning April 30, 2018 and will remain closed until April 2019 when construction is completed.
