History of the Pointe
The Pointe at Ballwin Commons opened in July 1996. It is anticipated approximately 170,000 visitors are served each year. The 2,000-square-foot leisure pool is a favorite component for all ages. This particular element was added due to citizen interest and to provide a source of revenue. Construction on Phase II, the 2,200 square foot indoor leisure pool, began in February, 1996 after passage of a 1/2 cent capital improvements sales tax in November, 1995. With high schools in the area offering competitive swimming elements, the citizen's committee realized the need to provide recreational swimming and a building component that could generate revenue and help recover the cost of operating the entire center. The pool includes a two story water slide, lazy river current channel, whirlpool spa, interactive water playground, vortex, three 25 yard lap lanes, and sundeck. Total cost for the leisure pool phase was $3,155,000. The two-story atrium lobby of The Pointe is filled with natural light from the signature pyramid architectural feature.
