E-Bike Regulations

In August of 2026, the Board of Aldermen approved new regulations regarding the use of bicycles, e-bikes and other motorized vehicles. With the rise in popularity of these new devices and an increase in crashes related to them, legislation was drawn up to enact regulations.

There are a lot of changes that come with this new law. We're asking parents, and anyone else who operates or is responsible for someone who operates these e-bikes and other motorized vehicles, to familiarize themselves with the new laws. There are some places certain vehicles are allowed, while other places they are prohibited.

It's important to note that:

  • Helmets must be worn by anyone under the age of 17
  • All traffic laws must be obeyed, including speed limit

You can read the bill in it's entirety here.

Each graphic below is clickable to a printable PDF version you can save to your computer or phone.

Before we get into what's allowed and what's not allowed, it's important to know the definitions of each different type of e-bike/vehicle.

What is allowed and what isn't?

We have created two separate charts with what's allowed and what's not. Click both below for printable versions.
