February's Members of the Month: Amy, Jimmie and Braden

Feb 6, 2018 | The Pointe

It’s the iPhone era. It’s the social media era. It’s the video game era. Whatever you want to call it, there is no questioning technology is taking over our attention and often resulting in a sedentary lifestyle.

February’s Members of the Month: Amy Houchin, Jimmie Carter and their son Braden Carter, are determined to fight this temptation. They are known around The Pointe for being an active, healthy, and athletic-minded family. You can often see them playing together in the gym, swimming, taking classes and truly spending quality time as a family away from the screens.

It’s especially encouraging to see Braden enjoying the process so much with his parents. Baseball, basketball, you name it, Braden loves it. He says baseball is his favorite sport for which he plays 3rd base. You’ll see him working with his dad in the gym on his technique, doing drills, striving to improve and having fun.

Both Jimmie and Amy grew up playing sports and see the value and importance team sports and an active lifestyle offer. “We make it a priority. We want to strive to be better, especially for Braden. Being a good role model for him is important,” said Amy. Their frequent visits to The Pointe are evidence they are living this out. Between homework and athletic events, they still manage to come a few times during the week and almost every weekend.

These active parents are setting a wonderful example not only for their son, but for people throughout the facility as well. Their nominator wrote, “I see this family come in pretty regularly. They usually end up playing basketball together, and it’s fun to see all three interact together on the court.”

Jimmie said, “I’ve been to all the other fitness clubs and work out facilities, and they’re not the same. It’s in the atmosphere. At The Pointe, you never get the impression you’re being judged or that your whole workout is about competing with the people around you. When you come here, you can tell the difference. My first time here, I was sold.”

Amy agrees, “The staff make it better here. They’re very helpful and courteous and they’re really knowledgeable about health and wellness. And I feel The Pointe is much more family-oriented than other places.”

Jimmie is a carpenter at the VA and Amy is a nurse at Barnes-Jewish. They’ve been together eleven years and just moved to Ballwin two years ago. They say the atmosphere at The Pointe really extends to the whole city of Ballwin. After living in other parts of West County, they’ve found their favorite community right here in Ballwin. “We love it here,” said Amy.

Braden is clearly following in his parents’ footsteps. He says he has lots of friends who play sports with him and who are also active. Braden’s favorite part about The Pointe is the PAC room where his family is pictured above.

Thank you Amy, Jimmie and Braden for inspiring others and making health and fitness a priority. Congratulations on being named February’s Members of the Month!
