March's Member of the Month: Andrew Svolopoulos

Mar 9, 2018 | The Pointe

“It’s all about building relationships and engaging with the people around you,” says Andrew Svolopoulos, this month’s Member of the Month.

If you’re looking for motivation for your exercise habits, work duties, family responsibilities, and spiritual pursuits consider how each of these things comes back to building relationships.

Some of Andrew’s driving factors in his life are his faith, relationships, and routines. His life, his focus, and his drive prove he means every word.

One piece of his routine involves heading to The Pointe four times a week early in the morning where he gets in an hour-long workout consisting of a mix of stretching, cardio and weights. He wasn’t always a morning person he said, but knew that after becoming a parent he would have to switch his workout routine from after work to before work.

It’s not for everyone, but if you want to do more in the morning Andrew, not-surprisingly, says the best way to form this habit is to, “Make it relational. I know people who are way more likely to come here in the mornings because they know I’m going to be here. If I don’t see them I’m going to text them to see what’s going on, and they’d do the same for me.”

“I enjoy getting to know people here and forming friendships. It’s evident some people have a stressful job or come here to unwind and I want to respect that, but there are always people here who are willing to converse.”

"I’m a big advocate for balance in life. I’m a Christian which means I think that’s where it all starts and everything pours out from there, but a good balance and a good routine provide lots of benefits in all areas of life.” Some of his motivation to stay active is for his family and his children. Andrew and his wife Amy have been married for 17 years and their whole family uses The Pointe regularly. The family moved to Ballwin 15 years ago and became member of The Pointe almost immediately. Their sons are Nicholas who is 13 and Sam who is 8.  “I want to be ready to go on a hike with them or take a bike ride. Those experiences are important.”

“I like the fact that The Pointe isn’t just a gym. It’s full of other activities and programs and is ideal for families.”

Routine is important beyond an individual workout mindset too. For Andrew, routine also means that every Monday night is “boys” night so he and his sons head out to do something fun together. “The Pointe gives us options like shooting hoops, playing ping pong, or swimming together. This place is great for one-on-one experiences that are really important in life.”

Andrew is an Enterprise Network Convergence Leader at Barry-Wehmiller where he’s worked for 15 years. He says his technologically-oriented mind inspires him to complete lots of projects around the house. He is also a leader in his son’s Trail Life USA group. Congratulations on being named March’s Member of the Month Andrew. It’s people like you who make The Pointe a special place where friendships are formed!
