Kay Barnes first joined The Pointe so she could have a place to work out with her daughter, who you may recognize as one of our incredible front desk attendants, Lexi.
Family is clearly a priority to Kay who grew up in Garber, Oklahoma. She met her husband Don in high school, and after moving around the midwest for a bit, they settled in Ballwin permanently in 1974.
"After Lexi started working more hours here, I had to recruit more friends to come workout with me, " Kay said with a smile. Kay has since invited a few friends she used to work with to join The Pointe. Together they hold each other accountable for their fitness routines.
Fitness has been important to her for her entire life. An especially fun fact about Kay is that she is a black belt in Karate. "I haven't done Karate for many years, but it's still the best exercise I've ever gotten, nothing can beat it. I always have been and always want to be active,” she said.
Some people may read about a woman like Kay and think you have to be born with a desire to be active in order to reach your goals. But Kay disagrees. "You have to just try it. Working out may not be fun for everyone, but it grows on you. Once you get started, you don't want to stop, at least that was true for me," she said.
Kay may not practice Karate the way she used to, but she is still known for trying different machines and workouts around The Pointe. "We call her Mighty Mouse," said her friends. "Kay is wonderful. She offers great support, and having someone to come with makes it a lot easier. She pushes you and I don't like to miss a day, because I'm kind of afraid of her," her friend joked.
Kay has been married to her husband Don for almost 55 years, and they have three kids and two grandkids.
In her working years, she was just as active in her work time as she was in her personal time. Working for a rehab company, she met some life long friends who are the ones she still works out with at The Pointe. She has also enjoyed traveling including four trips to Europe, going out West to the mountains, touring National Parks and many driving trips to places across the country.
