Mosquito Control

The Ballwin Public Works Department will resume its annual attack on mosquitoes on May 15, 2024. It ended September 13, 2024. Fogging will begin at 8:30 p.m. when the adult mosquitoes are most active. The entire City will be fogged on a weekly basis.  Wards not fogged due to rain, excessive wind speed, or holidays will not be fogged that week. The following schedule will be followed:

Mondays – Ward 1 (click here for map)

Tuesdays – Ward 2 (click here for map)

Wednesdays – Ward 3 (click here for map)

Thursdays – Ward 4 (click here for map)

Fridays – No fogging

An EPA-approved, water-based “Aqua Kontrol 30-30" is the insecticide ejected into the air to kill flying adult mosquitoes.  The City's licensed operators are Certified Public Operator Applicators by the Missouri Department of Agriculture.

The Centers for Disease Control has compiled ways to reduce mosquitoes outdoors. You can check them out below:

Remove Standing Water Where Mosquitoes Lay Eggs

Clean up and empty containers
  • Once a week, empty and scrub, turn over, cover, or throw out any items that hold water like tires, buckets, planters, toys, pools, birdbaths, flowerpot saucers, or trash containers. Mosquitoes lay eggs near water.
  • Tightly cover water storage containers (buckets, cisterns, rain barrels) so mosquitoes cannot get inside to lay eggs.
  • For containers without lids, use wire mesh with holes smaller than an adult mosquito.
  • Fill tree holes to prevent them from filling with water.
  • If you have a septic tank, repair cracks or gaps. Cover open vent or plumbing pipes. Use wire mesh with holes smaller than an adult mosquito.

Kill Mosquito Larvae Outside Your Home

  • Use larvicides to treat large bodies of water that will not be used for drinking and cannot be covered or dumped out.
  • When using larvicides, always follow label instructions.

Kill Mosquitoes Outside Your Home

Spraying adulticide outdoors
  • Use an outdoor adulticide to kill adult mosquitoes in areas where they rest.
  • Mosquitoes rest in dark, humid areas like under patio furniture or under the carport or garage. When using insecticides, always follow label instructions.

If you have a bee hive, please call the Ballwin Public Works Department. The streets that we know have bee hives will be fogged at a later time, once bees have returned to their hive.
