Friends,
Spring has come to Ballwin! As I look out my window, I see the beautiful Irises and other bushes and plants that are blooming in my yard as they are across Ballwin! On May 24th summer will officially arrive in Ballwin when the North Pointe Aquatic Center opens for the season. Come out and enjoy the fun of the lazy river, children’s play area, and the diving pool!
On April 26th , former Mayor Tim Pogue cut the ribbon on the fantastic new playground in Vlasis Park! The warmer weather is a great time to bring the kids or grandkids to enjoy the splash pad, slides and other play equipment. It has gotten rave reviews from the young and young at heart who have checked it out since it opened a few weeks ago.
With summer being here be sure to take advantage of the great summer programs offered by our Parks and Recreation Department, which include a wide variety of day camps for kids of all ages, swimming lessons, glow golf and our free Wednesday night summer concert series at New Ballwin Park. Check them all out on the Ballwin website or on Facebook here.
This is the time of year when you will see our awesome Public Works Department working on the streets and sidewalks through-out Ballwin. A record $1.8 million plus has been allocated in this year’s municipal budget to improve and redo streets and sidewalks in our city. If you are planning a summer vacation for your family, don’t forget to sign-up for our Police Department’s vacation watch program. There is a form on our website to
complete and provide basic information for our amazing Police Officers to utilize as they stop by your home to make sure your home and property is safe.
It was my honor on April 28th to be sworn in as the 13th Mayor of the City of Ballwin! If you don’t know me yet, I look forward to meeting you! I grew up in Maplewood and my wife, Karen, son Matt and I have called Ballwin home since 1999. In case you are wondering the answer to the uniquely St. Louis question, I am a graduate of Lutheran High School South. I was appointed in January 2015 to fill the vacancy created when former Ward 2 Alderman Mark Harder was elected to the St. Louis County Council, and I was elected to a full-term in April of that year. I am grateful to the Citizens of Ward 2 for giving me the opportunity to represent them these past 10 years.
Our city was very fortunate to have had the leadership of former Mayor Tim Pogue for the last 21 years. A life-long Ballwin resident, he served the citizens of Ward 1 as Alderman for five years before being elected Mayor in 2009. Tim’s leadership and vision was instrumental in the growth and development that has made our city the great community it is today!
Thank you, Mayor Pogue!
As your Mayor, I am deeply committed to Ballwin’s tradition of complete transparency in our operations. Never hesitate to call or email me with your questions, thoughts, suggestions or concerns about our city and how we can continue to move our great city forward.
Finally, it is my pleasure, to invite you to events coming up this month!
I welcome you to join me for the first Coffee with the Mayor! If you are available, please consider joining me Saturday, May 10th , from 10:00 am to 12:00 noon at The Wolf Café, for the first Coffee with the Mayor. This informal session will be a chance to talk about our city and share ideas on how we can make Ballwin an even greater place to live, work and raise our families!
Memorial Day is Monday, May 26th . Please join the Ballwin Historical Society at the Memorial in Vlasis Park, across from the old police department site, at 11 am as we remember and give thanks for the brave men and women who paid the ultimate price for the freedoms we enjoy as Americans. It will be my honor to give the welcoming address that morning.
Hope to see you there!
Mayor Mark R. Stallmann
